<p data-textannotation-id="9edd82d9e878ec769e7c15b834647012">The secret behind the ad&#8217;s wizardry is a lenticular top layer, which shows different images at varying angles. So when an adult—or anyone taller than four feet, five inches—looks at it they only see the image of a sad child and the message: &#8220;sometimes, child abuse is only visible to the child suffering it.&#8221; But when a child looks at the ad, they see bruises on the boy&#8217;s face and a different message: &#8220;if somebody hurts you, phone us and we’ll help you&#8221; alongside the foundation&#8217;s phone number.</p>
<p data-textannotation-id="40e5f12df02f43efb841cd5b166dc36a">The ad is designed to empower kids, particularly if their abuser happens to be standing right next to them</p>

<p>Real Beauty Sketches is taking the internet by storm by revealing that women really are their own harshest critics.  In the video above, forensic artist Gil Zamora (who sketches a handful of women from description alone) notes the disparity between the way women describe their own appearance and the way they are described by others.</p>
<p>The artist creates two sketches per woman &#8212; one based on her impression of her own appearance and the other created from a complete stranger&#8217;s description.  Revealingly, the women tend to describe their features in a negative manner: &#8220;I kind of have a fat, rounder face&#8221;, &#8220;My mum told me I had a big jaw&#8221;, &#8220;I would say I have a pretty big forehead&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>But when described by others, the descriptions are much more positive: &#8220;She had blue eyes, very nice blue eyes&#8221;, &#8220;She was thin, so you could see her cheekbones&#8221;, &#8220;Cute nose&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>The resulting pairs of sketches are completely different to each other. Those created when the women described themselves are not as flattering as those created with the help of others.  When presented with the sketches, some of the women became emotional.</p>
<p>One participant confesses: &#8220;I should be more grateful of my natural beauty. It impacts the friends that we make, the jobs we apply for, how we treat our children. It impacts everything.&#8221;</p>
<p>The campaign hopes to address the negative way that women see their own appearance. Its message says: &#8220;You are more beautiful than you think.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Why it works: </strong>The video speaks on an emotional level and will be shared on social media by those supporting the real beauty message and sentiment.</p>

<p>The software is designed to give viewers the feeling that they&#8217;re &#8220;there,&#8221; right where the video was shot. As viewers turn their phones to the left or right, the perspective and frame of reference shifts with them &#8212; as if they were behind the camera looking in either direction.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t video that can be but rather is meant to be viewed on mobile devices, taking full advantage of the fact that users can move and manipulate their phones, something they can&#8217;t really do to their TVs. The use cases range from 360-degree tours of car interiors to creation of remote-participation experiences for concerts and sports games.</p>
<p>For us, while the application of the technology could lead to some exciting developments in video content, the need to download the app to view may be a barrier to content going viral. The app also takes up over 800MB of space which will prevent a lot of people from keeping the app on their tablet/smartphone. That said, if YouTube were to buy up the technology and integrate it into their platform, this would become a mass appeal exciting development in video production.</p>
